Use tools like Google Keywords to select keywords with good global search volume and medium competition and modify your page titles, content and Meta description tags accordingly. Using less searched keywords will occasionally display your website in search results.

2) Infrequent SEO analysis after the initial setup

Don't forget that SEO is not a one-time process. It requires regular (weekly, if not daily) analysis of website using tools like Google Analytics and continuous efforts to maintain and improve your web page rankings.

3) Ignoring the importance of off-page optimization

Off-page search engine optimization is done completely separate from on-page SEO and provides quality backlinks to a website. It includes social bookmarking, article and video submissions, RSS feeds, directory submissions etc. Quality backlinks are key to how a website moves up the search engines. So ignoring off-page optimization can prove to be a very big mistake for your SEO campaign.
